Iranian film ‘Helmsman’ by Majid Esmaeili has grabbed the Award for an Outstanding Cinematic Achievement at Lucas International Festival for Young Film Lovers.
‘Helmsman’ (Gamichi) has won the award at the festival’s 40th edition held from October 1st to October 7th, 2017 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Winner of the “Award for Best Actor” and “Award for Best Director” at Triangle FF India 2017, this is the film’s first time screening in Germany.
‘Helmsman’ follows the story of Hassan’s family; his father left the family home by Urmia Lake in the Northwest of Iran without a word. When the lake dries up, the family loses its livelihood.
On top of that, Hassan’s mother dies. Yet Hassan, the youngest son, firmly believes in the return of his father. With all his might he tries to prevent the intended sale of the family’s boat which has become stranded. With the help of his friend Naji he plans to restore the old boat and wait for his father.
‘Helmsman’ is a strong and poetic appeal for friendship, but also a painfully relevant reminder of the dramatic consequences of climate change – with visually stunning images of sparse landscapes and a constant interplay of light and shadow, movement and stillness.
Lucas International Festival for Young Film Lovers is Germany’s oldest festival for young film fans offering a wide spectrum of international fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films.
